My Q&A About Fashion

7/18/2014

Below are simple questions and answers --based on the Q&A from Seventeen Ultimate Guide To Style-- all about fashion with slight hints of beauty. Read along, then feel free to answer the questions yourself in the comments! P.S. All but one of these photos are credited to Pinterest. The only other one is from Angie.

What is your favorite movie costume?

The 1930s dress Cecilia (Kiera Knightley) wore in Atonement for dinner. It was so beautiful.

Who is/are your designer crush(es)?

I admire Kate Spade and Valentino items. I choose Kate Spade for cute 'n casual style, and I choose Valentino for formal wear.

Who is your style soul mate?

Definitely Zooey Deschanel. She dresses very similar to her New Girl character in real life. You've gotta love both Zooey and Jess' style!

What is your favorite fashion city?

Although I've never been there, NYC is my favorite fashion city. Its streets are overflowing with a variety of fearless fashion!

What is your guilty pleasure?

Thrifting! Sure, it might smell like a bunch of different soaps...but the store is loaded with vintage finds (the center photo was taken by Angie)! And if you don't exactly like what you buy, transform it (see left photo)! My most recent thrift haul is coming soon.

What is your beauty obsession?

Red lipstick, duh! It's super easy and chic. You'll look bold and daring, plus you don't always have to apply any other makeup besides that and it will still look glam-tastic!

What is your go-to fashion piece?

Dresses. They're comfy, cute, and extremely easy to accessorize (...if you even want to).

What is your accessory obsession?

For the past two years I have loved cuff earrings. Sadly, I do not own a cuff or cuffs. At least I can obsess over them on Pinterest!

What is your crafty passion?

As some of you might have read in the "about" section of the navigation bar on this site, I have mentioned briefly that I struggle anxiety. Knitting keeps me busy!

What is your favorite footwear?

Oxford heels and oxford flats. I like other flats too, but oxfords have stuck with me for the past three years. They're very close to my heart.

What is a styling secret of yours?

Want a certain skirt pattern, but only have a dress with that particular print? Fold the top of a dress inward to make it look like a skirt or hide the top half under a sweater. It really works!

What is your favorite decade?

I like all decades from 1920 through the '50s. I couldn't just pick one. Fashion evolution hugely began in the '20s when women dropped corsets and wore shorter dresses to show celebration of the 19th amendment through style. From then on, fashion changed in every decade.

Besides your 'style soul mate', what other people do you consider to be your style icons?

Easy: Kiera Knightly, Audrey Hepburn, and Lupita Nyong.

What is your go-to accessory?

Hair bows. They can be worn in so many ways and they compliment outfits exceptionally well.

What is your top fashion trend (how would you describe your style)?

I enjoy mixing vintage with an indie/artsy grunge. It really does look interesting.

What is your style "secret weapon"?

The old-fashioned circle skirt. You can dress it up, dress it down, and wear it with any style you're aiming for. Plus it's super flattering on all figures!

What is your fashion obsession?

I love light-weight cardigans. Do I need to explain? Fine, I will: they're cute, go with nearly everything, and you're able to wear them through the majority of the year!

Finally --and maybe most importantly-- what is your fashion philosophy?

Don't feel like you need to dress simply to impress someone ELSE. If you're trying to impress someone you like, stop! Be yourself! That lets you know if they like you for YOU or not. Dress for yourself only! Wear what makes YOU happy. Like the wise Audrey Hepburn once said: "Happy girls are the prettiest girls." Just wear clothing that makes YOU happy. Go on, smile!
