Spring Favorites (2018)

7/9/2018

Hello friends!
I'm back already, nice and early this week, with another blog post.

I've been working around 35 hours for the past few weeks, so with slightly reduced hours this week, I decided to write a blog post. I have a few more days off than I'm used to, so why not just publish some stuff for the blog?

Spring has flown by. Maybe that's even an understatement. It seemed like Winter just transformed into Summer. Spring was kind of lost. But despite the craziness of Ohio weather, I still managed to theme my makeup and outfits around traditional spring weather, for the most part. My makeup was still dewy and fresh, my outfits were light and loose, and despite my mental health being off for the past few months, I feel like I'm finally coming close to reclaiming myself. Hence why I'm finally getting more regular with my posts.

I know makeup is never a must, same with dressing up, but makeup and fashion has always been how I've found myself. And maybe I'll do a blog post sometime on my style transformations at some point. But for today, I want to show you guys the items that I've used "religiously" to get me through the spring. Items that have made me feel good about myself and that have been essential for this past season.

My Glasses

I've never been a true glasses wearer before, nor did I necessarily think I needed to wear glasses, until I started working where I work now. I work in retail, under florescent lights. I don't like to give specific locations on the blog, just for privacy reasons. But trust me, where I work has a lot of florescent lights. And it's been seeming trickier and trickier to read signs and to recognize faces from across the store. Same with reading road signs while driving. So I ended up going to EyeMart for an appointment with my sister, where I was told I needed glasses for distance. So I basically always wear them now.

So I ordered three types of glasses from Zenni Optical and they were super affordable. I've gotten numerous compliments on them and I pretty much recommend them to everyone. All you need is your prescription and you're ready! I purchased a black pair for casual outings, and tortoise shell pair for more stylish outings, and then a clear pair for when I want to do fancy makeup. They're wonderful. All of my glasses are between nine to fifteen dollars per pair.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip

I think I showed this product in my Winter Favorites from this past winter, but it was a mini in the last post. This time, I have the full-sized product. And I'm still in love. This color is called Take a Pixie, and it's a perfect dusty pink color. Plus it lasts for a long time!

Liquid Highlight

So I showed this product in my Barely There Makeup Tutorial and I just really like it. It's liquid upon application but dries in place. It adds a hint of rose gold and is beautiful for spring and summer makeup. I did a subtle swatch on the top of my hand for you folks.

Foundation

So my friend from work recommended this foundation and I've already been loving it so much more than my Maybelline Fit Me! Foundation. This is the Loreal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow foundation. It has amazing coverage and stays all day. I also like that it has a squeeze application because it's easier to apply to my beauty sponge and to my face.

Mascara

I used to be all about the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, until I realized how bad it actually flaked off by the end of the day. That's why now I use the Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara by Loreal Paris. It makes my lashes stand out just as much as the Better Than Sex Mascara did, but it lasts all day and doesn't flake. And it's more affordable.

Everyday Lipsticks

So as my foundation changed, so did my method of applying it. When using my beauty sponge, I apply my foundation all over my face and also my lips. Or else I have a line of foundation around my lips and things just end up looking awkward. So how can I then make my lips not look chalky at the end of my makeup look? By adding a casual lipstick. These are three (possibly expired) lipsticks that I reach for every day. I'll show the swatches below.

On the left, I swatched my Milani lipstick in 42 Rose Femme. It's a beautiful purple-ly, mauve-y lipstick that just pops when accompanied by a good cupid's bow highlight. The next swatch, in the middle, is the Loreal Paris Colour Riche lipstick in 843 Toasted Almond. This is a perfect, creamy brown color that pairs wonderfully with warmer-toned eye colors and contour shades. And finally, the last shade on the right is the Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy in the shade Discreet. It's almost like a mixture of the first two colors, like a brownish pink. All of these colors are super creamy and feel incredibly moisturizing.

Well that's it, friends. Thank you all for tuning in for this quick blog post today!

Keep on grinning!

Lydia

Like your comments about the discovery of the need for glasses but miss you discussing your more personal Lydia. You're so good at that.
