Hello friends! I mentioned ages ago that I'd make a Beauty Q&A post, but I've procrastinated for years. It's time to finally make one.
Yep, you read that right. Years. I made my first fashion Q&A in 2014, then my second in 2019. Each time, I've mentioned that I was going to also make a beauty Q&A, but in all these years, I've neglected to do so. So today, I'm diving into what I originally sought out to do.
For some context, this is a Q&A series where I get my questions from a Seventeen Magazine book I received ages ago. So for the fashion posts, I referenced the Seventeen Ultimate Guide to Fashion. And guess what--there was another book I got the following year: the Seventeen Ultimate Guide to Beauty. To find my questions, I go to the pages where real ladies talk about their inspirations. Like their favorite fashion city, their style icon, stuff like that. I collect these topics and turn them into questions, then answer them for myself. Sometimes the questions actually make me think!
Disclaimer: I am pulling all of these images from Pinterest. If I can find the true original source of these images, that original source will be linked with the image for credit. Thank you!
Who are your current beauty icons?
Lucy Hale (left) is an style and hair icon, Zendaya (center) literally does all her makeup without a glam squad, and Elle Fanning (right) has been my minimalistic beauty queen for years.
What is your essential makeup tool?
A fluffy blending brush for my eye shadows. I have a cheap brush from Marshalls that I use and it does the trick. It's essential for my every day makeup looks.
Who is your celebrity crush?
AOC, baby! She's smart, gorgeous, and actually understands us younger kiddos in the U.S.
What is your go-to makeup look?
Dewey, dewey, dewey. A bold brow with it is always ideal, but that fresh look is always my goal.
What is your fashion obsession?
Layers and buttons. Plus any androgynous items I can add. It makes me feel like a badass.
What is your favorite beauty trend?
I love a rosey nosey. I think it was the whole e-girl tiktok takeover that influenced this look. Maybe it's very Puff's Tissue-esque, but I'm living for it! Especially for us ladies with cute button noses. Let us have this! It's our time to shine!
What is your "get-noticed" trick?
It's amazing what a pop of color can do. Whether it be in the inner corner, or just among a very neutral and minimalistic canvas, I think adding an unexpected shade is super eye-catching.
What is your beauty weakness?
Lipsticks. Seriously, even with a pandemic happening, where our faces are covered by masks, I'm still finding myself stopping and looking at lipsticks when I'm at the store. I've been a sucker for matte lipsticks for years now, but I do love myself a creamy lippy from time to time.
How does beauty play into your career/hobbies?
I'm a blogger! Beauty tutorials are one of my favorite things to do. It's always fun to go back to see how I created a certain look. Yeah, I do reference my past self sometimes!
What is your favorite accessory?
Earrings! I feel like earrings can complement a hair or makeup look so well. Your face is a canvas, and earrings should complement that! I recently got second lobe piercings and a conch piercing, and I'm loving them. I want more, but we've gotta budget, people.
What is your going-out look?
When I used to go out (yanno, when there wasn't a pandemic), I always wore my signature cat eye and a bold (or occasionally subtle) lip. It's my favorite combination, and it makes me feel super confident! It's something I can wear when I drunkenly make new friends at the bar. Good times. Quick reminder to drink responsibly!
What are some other items that inspire you?
Pantone color books and paint swatches give me life. They inspire me for my design work, my decorating style, and some new makeup color schemes I want to try!
What is your favorite beauty city?
I love the style and beauty trends of Paris. It's so minimalistic and chic.
Who are some of your influencer crushes?
Sammi Jefcoate and Estee Lalonde. Hands-down. I've only been following Sammi (left) for about a year now. I love how she's both edgy and glam, not to mention how gorgeous her tattoos are. As for Estee, I've followed her for years! Estee was and still is one of my favorite YouTubers. Her content is so calm--not over-edited, no music, just simple goodness. She's the woman who really inspired me to try out different skincare products. She also is a fellow bath-lover and anxiety-haver, like myself. I think it's important to have people like Estee on the internet. She's great!
What is your favorite makeup trick?
Something that I like to do is I add white liner to my lower water line. It brightens the eye!
What is a beauty obsession?
Any kind of skincare or hair care. I think taking care of the canvas first and foremost is crucial.
What is a hair trend you're loving?
Platinum blonde with black. The contrast looks dope! It's better than that style in the early 2000s where people had that purple color underneath and the blonde on top. That to me didn't look that good. But something about this re-vamped e-girl version just feels so right.
Who is your celeb hair crush?
Zoe Kravitz. Whether she has gorgeous long braids or a chic buzz cut, she seriously looks amazing in whatever style she wears. Ultimate crush right here, ladies and gentlemen.
What is your favorite hair accessory?
I love hair wraps. They're very boho and comfy. Plus I feel like it adds a lot to even a basic outfit.
What's a hair goal for you?
I want some wild waves! Maybe a loose perm in my future is the move.
